Near present-day Şanlıurfa, thousands of years ago, lived a prophet: Job (Ayyub, peace be upon him). He was known for his wealth, his large family, and unwavering faith. His righteousness was admired by all, but his greatest test was yet to come.

One by one, calamities struck him. His flocks perished, his children died in a sudden disaster, and finally, his body was afflicted with a painful disease. His skin was covered with sores, and his suffering was unbearable. People abandoned him, leaving only his loyal wife by his side. Yet he never stopped praying: “Indeed, I present my suffering to my Lord. He is the Most Merciful.”

For seven years, he endured his illness with patience. Each night, he prayed quietly, waiting for his Lord’s mercy. His wife never left him, cleaning his wounds and bringing him food. Though his body decayed, his faith never did.

One day, God commanded: “Strike your foot on the ground.” When he did, a spring burst forth. He drank and bathed in its water, and his health was fully restored. His wealth and family were also returned, even greater than before.

Job’s story in the Qur’an is a timeless lesson: patience through hardship leads to divine mercy. Even today, visitors to Urfa pray at Job’s Well, seeking strength and hope. He remains a symbol of endurance and trust in God.
